Fundraising Ideas

Some Ideas to Help Get You Started and Enjoy Successful Fundraising!

Host a Party! : With the summer at hand why not host a BBQ, a Water fight, a day in the park or a late night dance
party to raise some funds for you or your team. People will happily donate for a good time, even a video game or chess
championship.
Door-to-Door: Although it seems the least fabulous form of fundraising, it’s not hard to make it fun! Put on a costume and bring some friends along. Role-play a character at the door or even carol for your neighbors, this is your chance to raise awareness about HIV but also to engage your neighbors in their community.

Utilize Common Spaces :If you live in an apartment complex, dorms,
senior living residence or any group housing, solicitation isn’t usually welcome but there are usually common spaces set up where you can host a movie night or post flyers asking for donations and letting your neighbors know about the AIDS Walk.

Get the Whole Family Involved! : Uncles, cousins, parents, siblings and children all have special skills that you can’t afford to underappreciate. Children in school have access to peers and can learn a lot getting involved at a young age. They also have the energy and spirit to yell for a car wash or lemonade stand. Other family members may play sports, be in a band, or have a craft they can use to help raise funds. And don’t be stopped by the idea of who you call family—get your loved ones involved and let them share your passions while you empower theirs for a good cause.

Engage Those Around You: If your workplace, school, or organization you work at or volunteer with isn’t involved yet, why not? Ask your boss and co-workers for money or if that’s too intimidating, put out a jar on your desk, counter, or break room for people to drop donations in.

Get a Business to Match You: If you know a business that would support HIV/AIDS awareness, ask them to match whatever you are able to raise in funds. You raise $100 and they match it with another $100.

Religious and Faith Communities: If your church, temple, or place of worship gathers collections or gives to causes, ask the leaders if that money can go to the AIDS Walk. It can also be very rewarding to get your religious community to form a team or teams. During social hours and gatherings don’t forget to engage your community in dialogue and see if they would like to donate or help raise funds.
